2,500 Furloughed Sritex Workers: Company Reaffirms Commitment
Indonesia – Sukoharjo – PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex) Tbk has pledged to uphold its responsibilities toward approximately 2,500 furloughed employees in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, following a raw material shortage that has impacted the factory’s operations. The company attributes this crisis to administrative challenges and frozen accounts, stemming from a bankruptcy ruling issued by the Semarang Commercial Court.
Sritex Chairman Iwan Setiawan Lukminto assured the public during a visit from Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer to the Sritex factory on Friday, November 15, 2024, that the company remains committed to its obligations. “The company will continue to meet its responsibilities toward furloughed employees,” he stated.
Sritex President Director Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto, also known as Wawan, highlighted the broader implications of the ongoing situation, warning that prolonged challenges could further affect factory operations. “The management of Sritex is currently under the authority of four court-appointed curators and a supervising judge. While we are striving to avoid layoffs, any decisions beyond our control will be outside our authority. Nonetheless, our commitment as Sritex management is to prevent layoffs as much as possible,” he affirmed.
Business Continuity in the Hands of Curators
Wawan emphasized that the future of Sritex now rests with the four curators and the supervising judge. “The sustainability of our operations depends heavily on the decisions of the supervising judge and the curators. This is crucial to ensure business continuity given the current circumstances,” he added.
A meeting held with the curators in Semarang on Thursday, November 14, 2024, yielded no tangible progress, according to Wawan. “It was mainly an introductory meeting with creditors. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations. Three weeks ago, we requested approval for business continuity, but no positive response has been received,” he explained.
Wawan noted that the curators had requested additional data and time to analyze it. “At this point, there is no consensus or alignment on ensuring the continuity of Sritex’s operations,” he remarked.
Immediate Challenges Ahead
The lack of a clear directive poses an imminent risk to Sritex’s production capabilities. “If the supervising judge does not authorize business continuity, we will exhaust our raw material supplies within the next three weeks,” Wawan warned, adding that the number of furloughed employees is likely to increase as a result.
He also disclosed that the company’s appeal has been submitted to the Supreme Court in Jakarta. “The appeal files have been received by the Supreme Court, and we are now awaiting a decision. Until then, our fate remains in the hands of the curators and the supervising judge,” he concluded.
